After conventional winemaking school, a young Benjamin Taillandier embarked on an educational stint in a traditional winery. However, it was his encounter with “natural” winemaker Jean-Baptiste Senat in 2004 that catalyzed his transformation. Like a chemical reaction, he absorbed Senat’s ideas and techniques, setting the stage for a new formula. In 2007, he returned to his roots in Caunes-Minervois, where he began the synthesis of his own wine, working with organic molecules—Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, and Terret Gris. Gradually, he transitioned to biodynamics, completing the conversion. Each year, he added a new element to his estate, tending to the vines by hand, resulting in a fully certified Ecocert product. His approach mirrors the precision of laboratory work, crafting wines that are rich yet exhibit an elegant molecular structure. In a region often dominated by concentrated and alcoholic concoctions, Benjamin’s wines are a refreshing experiment—a “vin de soif” that quenches the thirst for something different, creating a new chemical reaction in Minervois.
