grapes: dolcetto

    • In 1896, Giovanni Massolino both founded the estate and brought electricity to his village of Serralunga d’Alba, since then cementing their reputation as a Barolo icon
    • Dolcetto translates to “little sweet one”, but surprisingly the wines are typically tart with loads of black fruit and occasionally aggressive tannins.
    • Before dropping $50-$100 on an unfamiliar bottle of Barolo, try the producer’s Dolcetto and Barbera, which are often windows into the producer’s style and reliable gauge for quality.
