Style: Parrots and Hippies and Rosés, oh my!

Sorry to color your opinion from the get-go but we feel it’s our duty to let you know what you’re getting in to. The winemaker for A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines, Adi Badenhorst, seems to have his hands in almost too many jars. In addition to winemaking he’s also a parrot farmer, record collector, egg poaching pro, tea connoisseur, ponytail wearer, mud wrestler, and former grape thief. Honestly, we’re not sure where he finds the time to make his amazing wines but, like some hippie wizard, he has a way of producing some of the best traditionally made natural wines on the planet. This rosé is a perfect example of Adi’s wizardry. He uses 100% Mourvedre which, made into a classic red wine, is full-bodied and meaty with a strong gaminess that requires decanting. Somehow he’s able to tone down all this savoriness to produce an elegant rosé that would fit in perfectly with the iconic rosés produced in the Bandol wine region of southern France.
