Biodynamic agriculture or for some, “voodoo farming’, is the trendiest term used in wine marketing today. We are an environmentally conscious people, hyper-aware that many of the norms of an industrialized nation are perhaps, not so good for ourselves or the Earth. So it’s trendy for a reason. But what is it, really? Well for starters, holistic and organic practices are used to protect the vineyard rather than man-made chemicals, which certainly makes me feel better about putting it in my body. But biodynamics don’t stop there. Oh no. Founded by mystic philosopher, Rudolf Steiner in the 1920’s, biodynamic agriculture uses various herbal and mineral additives for compost and field sprays; these are prepared using methods that are more akin to sympathetic magic than agronomy. Alois Lageder has bought into this approach hook, line, and sinker. And if all we have to go by is the purity of wines he producers, that’s good enough for us. They are consistent bangers with personality. This Schiava (or Vernatsch) is a light, fresh, red-fruited beauty with loads of likability on its own or with food. Cin cin! certainlyOh no Founded by mystic philosopher, Rudolf Steiner in the 1920’s,
