Very floral on the nose yet savory on the palate; it really will make you stop and think and, in the process, hopefully distract you long enough to skip that next cigarette. The winemaker, François Villard, is one of the stars of the Northern Rhône. He came to winemaking after a career in restaurants where he caught the wine bug and moved from chef to sommelier. He eventually went full time as a winemaker and is entirely self taught. A note on Syrah: Some French examples can be a bit too smoky for just popping a bottle in front of the boob tube.
