grapes: malvasia bianca/trebbiano/chardonnay
A few weeks back, I came home after a decidedly rough day of work with one thing on my mind: Wine! Now! I opened up the fridge and pulled out a bottle of Bindi Sergardi’s “Bindo” and luxuriated in the way this unusual blend of white grapes seemed to pull me off the ledge. The aromatics of the Malvasia Bianca, the freshness and acidity from the Trebbiano, and the roundness of the Chardonnay combined to sweep me away on a lovely reverie about one of my all-time favorite rom-coms (not really a rom-com but close enough), “Sing Street.” It’s a coming-of-age musical film released in 2016, directed by John Carney. Set in Dublin in the 1980s, the film follows a teenage boy named Conor who starts a band called “Sing Street” to impress a girl named Raphina. Conor, facing challenges at home and adjusting to a new school, discovers music as a way to escape and express himself. The film beautifully captures the vibrant music scene of the 1980s, drawing inspiration from various genres of that era, including new wave, pop, and post punk. Anyhow, cheers to a wine 23 generations in the making, movie magic, and unusual blends that knows how to hit all the right notes!Trust me on this, you NEED to see it. Anyhow, all of this got me to wondering how a wine made from a 23 generation, Tuscan family could so move me? Eff it. Cheers to wine, movie magic, and an unusual blend that knows how to hit all the right notes!
