Country: Australia
Region: South Australia
Style: Small Batch Obessions

An Englishman living in Scotland, an Irishman living in England, and a German descendant working in Adelaide all walk into a bar…and proceed to “get high off their own supply.”  You would do it too if you were making the good, good. Giles Cooke, Fergal Tynan, and Peter Leske combined forces like some goofy trio of superheroes to create the Thistledown Winery in 2010.

Grenache is Australia’s signature grape and these blokes are obsessed with it.  Every vintage is vinified in small batches from old vines known as “soldier blocks”.  Thistledown’s approach to Grenache is extremely uncommon in Australia. Although Grenache is Australia’s most widely planted red grape and it figures significantly in Australia’s signature wine GSM, Grenache is rarely bottled as a single varietal and typically plays second fiddle to Shiraz throughout the country. Come walk the road less traveled and give your cares a rest as you indulge in this gorgeous wine.
