Country: New Zealand

Style: Sauvignon What?

When folks think of New Zealand wines they typically think about how good their Sauvignon Blanc is and with good reason.  New Zealand Sauv Blancs have pretty much become the standard that your everyday wine drinker references when looking for one now days. But don’t be blinded by the excellence of NZ’s Sauvignon Blancs because there are a number of wineries kicking out some other wines that’ll blow you away. In this case, a Pinot Noir from te Pā winery.  The founder, Haysley MacDonald, can actually trace his ancestry back to the early Māori setters 800 years ago. That independent spirit lives on through Haysley.  He had no idea what he was doing when he converted his dairy and crop farm into a vineyard back in 2003. Thank goodness things worked out because he’s producing some beautiful wines that don’t walk the beaten path of New Zealand.
