Grapes: Gamay

  • •Gamay has grown so much in popularity the past 10 years because of its attachments to the minimal intervention wine making movement within France. It has also been used as an earthier and value option alternative to the awesomeness of the Pinot Noir.
  • •This Gamay comes from the Loire Valley in the Northwest area of France. In Touraine, apparently the birthplace of Lobster Thermidor, castles made from ‘tuffeau’ a delicate limestone from the banks of the Loire River are everywhere. This same limestone in the soil also provides great drainage for the grapes to grow.
  • •The wine is made by a well renown husband and wife team that grow the grapes  from 40-60 year old vines from a single block, and hand harvest them.
