grapes: mourvèdre
Mourvèdre. Sounds more like the title to a French horror movie than a beloved wine grape originating from Spain. So, in the season of new beginnings, what better way for Cab lovers to begin anew than with this full-bodied rustic wine from the Texas High Plains. Make no mistake about it, this is a meaty wine with a gaminess that is quite seductive to any red-blooded Texan. In the Hill Country, the barbecue season starts in earnest when spring is sprung and you’re not likely to find a better pairing for Texas barbecue than this Mourvèdre which practically begs for rich foods to absorb the tannin this baby packs. Hell, this stuff would be right at home at any backyard gathering involving a grill and a garden hose. This Texas version of Mourvèdre works so well because the grape is well-suited for hot climates that suffer from constant drought.  Enjoy y’all!
