All the way back in the late 19th century Father Giuseppe Forno was a priest and exorcist well known throughout the province of Perugia for his connection to the spirit world.  Among the various trinkets, spells, and vials of holy water he used in his ministrations, Father Forno was known to use a wine made by Ugo Boncompagni-Ludovisi in the exorcism rituals he performed. Ugo, a very clever marketer, decided to capitalize on this and name his winery “Scacciadiavoli” which means “to cast out the devil.”  Today, that spirit lives on with this heavenly red blend of Sangiovese (the main grape in Chianti), Merlot, and Sagrantino. Sagrantino is one of the most tannic grapes in the world but, in the hands of expert winemakers, can be blended to make expressive and memorable wines suitable for the most chaotic of souls.
