If you live in Montrose, you may have seen The Wizard ambling around the streets with his walking stick, blue robe, and loooong beard. His body is contorted in the shape of a question mark producing his peculiar gait as he walks the neighborhood with a purpose known only to him. Whenever I see him I fantasize of being a character in Lord of the Rings and Montrose is Middle Earth, where we fellowship amongst eccentrics from all walks of life. Like the Montrose Wizard, this Rhône-style wine from southern France brings joy to those who are fortunate enough to stumble upon it. Perhaps it’s because it’s fermented and aged in concrete barrels rather than oak.  This is ideal for crafting fruit-forward wines that capture the pure essence of the grapes rather than masking them with wood spice.  For two hundred years, the Lafage family has been practicing wine alchemy in the Southern France producing magical wine.
