Oi!  Ask a bloke from Down Under who would win in a fight between France and Australia and you’d probably get laughed out of the bar.  And if you asked the same blokes who makes a better GSM you might catch a beating. Côtes-du-Rhône in eastern France makes a red wine blend from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre (GSM for short) that is famous the world over for its complex fruit flavors and herbal notes that make wine lovers howl at the moon. In the Barossa Valley of southern Australia there are scores of producers who make their own version of GSM from the same grapes but with different names. Theirs is made from Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro and the resulting wine is a powerful punch to the palate. Like the Aussies this wine ain’t subtle and in a street fight…well, let’s just say we like Powell & Son’s odds. Just sayin’.
