Country: Spain
Region: Navarra
Style: Paradoxical Red

Let’s get one thing straight: master-crafted, yet affordable wines that don’t suck are not a myth. Yeah yeah yeah, many incredible wines are quite expensive but we can’t always drink like the one percenters. Fortunately, you have everywine on your side. We look for wines that will satisfy casual drinkers and aficionados alike.  This means wines made with skill and intention from unexpected places.  Spain has more vineyard land planted to Garnacha than any other country in the world.  This warm-climate red grape yields a wide spectrum of styles and quality levels from local jug wine to $1000/bottle old-vine Priorat.  Both can be absolutely intoxicating!  Using 80 year old vines in Navarra, Bodegas Nekeas creates expressions of Garnacha to tickle your senses with half remembered hang-outs by a campfire. Older vines often create wines with incredible depth and concentration. However, there’s a weird paradox going on here: the problem with old vines is reduced production. Less production means less wine produced and less financial return for the grape grower unless they bump up the price. Yet this example is delightfully affordable.  We’re not going to ask questions, though and neither should you…
